Sometimes you are at a point of your life where you don’t know where to go and what to do, you feel lost and useless. But if someone takes the time to listen and give you the chance to prove that you matter, a whole new life can begin, even if you are at your lowest. The film is awarded with the President of the Jury Award for its amazing animation technique, and a story that fully takes us into its universe.

Synopsis

Kicked out on his 21st birthday and troubled by his inner demons, Melvin thinks of ending things. But right on the edge of a cliff he finds ‘The Last Bar’, a quirky place of misfits that came for all the same reasons. Sparked by talks and confrontation, his inner journey continues and he has to stand up for himself. At break of dawn, his thoughts of ending his life vanished and he decides to stay a little longer.

Director's biography

Arne Hain was born in Starnberg in 1995. After school he did an internship at Beast Animation in Belgium and as a camera assistant for Trikk17 in Hamburg. He worked for Tippett Studios in the US and composed and animated for Phil Tippett's "MAD GOD" and animated the stop motion holo chess scene for the Disney film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In 2023 Arne completed his animation studies at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy with his graduation film “The Last Bar”.
