The Spiral Between Sound and Silence

Hearing impaired daughters and their mothers share their sincere thoughts on their life journey, paved with doubts and obstacles. Since beliefs differ among people with hearing problems, a child born in a family of hearing people has dissimilar fate to a child with hearing impaired parents. Is it a rightful choice for such people to undergo cochlear implantation surgery or should they rather stick with their destiny is a question debated through time which still searches for its answer. Mira and Diana, mothers of Vesi and Kali, dive deep in the world of hearing-impaired people for the first time when their daughters are born. They don’t hesitate to put a cochlear implant in their children the first moment they can. Nowadays, Kali speaks just like any ordinary person, but Vesi struggles to build sentences and communicate fluently, and moreover, struggles to live happily. Katya and Ema, mother and daughter, are a part of a family of non-hearing people. For them, there is nothing wrong or weird with being deaf, and they don’t even think of considering themselves as disabled. The movie examines both points of view, the one of hearing and non-hearing, and the silent conflict between them.
