Narcissus and Echo

by Franciska Goretity

Budapest Metropolitan University, Hungary

Synopsis

Narcissus, the painter and Echo, his model seem to live happily at first. Even though she thinks she is ugly, she looks pretty in the painting. In exchange, Narcissus would be a bad artist without her. However, Narcissus treats her worse and worse: he shames and even hits her once, but they always end up making it up. One day Echo discovers a secret folder in Narcissus’ study: it’s a pile of horrendous self-portraits. Echo realizes who this man truly is - she no longer needs him, so she takes all of her strength and walks away.

Director's biography

I have always been interested in multiple areas of fine arts so my goal was to choose career fields where I could participate in complex art projects. I graduated from Révai Miklós High School in Győr and right after I got admitted to Hungarian University of Fine Arts’ Visual Design Faculty where I graduated in 2021 as a set and puppet designer. After my Bachelor’s Degree I finished my Master’s Programme at Budapest Metropolitan University’s Animation Department in 2024 where I had the opportunity to experiment with stop motion which had been one of my biggest dreams.
