Synopsis

Director's biography
Kristian Iliev is an emerging Bulgarian director and screenwriter who is in the early stages of developing his artistic style in narrative and documentary cinema. He graduated in Film and Television Directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) "Krastyo Sarafov" and previously studied music at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov", specializing in classical guitar. This strong musical background often influences his filmmaking, where rhythm, sound, and visual storytelling play a crucial role.
In 2017, he directed his first short film, "Padane", followed by "Pusni Me" (2021) and the documentary "Play" (2022). His latest short fiction film, "Zalog" (2024), marks a new step in his creative journey, and he is currently developing the screenplay for "Down the River" (2025).
Beyond directing, Kristian has gained experience as a production assistant in film, television, and advertising. He has worked on the TV series "Stolen Life", various music videos—including several for Mila Robert—and commercial projects.
Writing is also a key part of his creative path. His poetry has been published in multiple literary magazines, and he maintains a poetry blog titled "Uvelichena Kvarta." In 2016, he received a special award from the "Veselin Hanchev" literary competition for his poetry.
With his combined background in cinema and music, Kristian Iliev seeks to explore innovative ways to tell emotionally resonant stories and establish his voice as a young filmmaker.
